With a population of just under 7,000, Rumson, NJ is an enviable place to live. A borough in Monmouth County, it’s also part of the New York Metro area.
An easy commute to Manhattan, residents can enjoy early morning swims in the ocean, drinks on their deep water docks, sunset sailing, and way more quality time with family.
Rumson is located at the eastern end of the New Jersey peninsula surrounded by water on three sides. With neighboring marinas and beach clubs in the Sea Bright and Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook, Rumson has a bit of a shore community feel.
For families, the big draw to Rumson, NJ is the public school system. Those include Deane Porter Elementary School on Blackpoint Road with a total of about 400 students from pre-kindergarten to third grade.
The Forrestdale Middle School on Forrest Avenue teaches grades 4-8 and has approximately 600 students.
Rumson-Fair Haven High School has a student body of 975 for grades 9-12. Upon graduation, 82% of seniors go on to four-year colleges. All of these schools have a low student/teacher ratios.
But Rumson also has private schools. The 80-year old Rumson Country Day School teaches approximately 450 students from nursery age to eighth grade.
Holy Cross School on Rumson Road, a Roman Catholic institution, also has about 450 students pre-k to eighth grade.
With a sprawling mix of mansions on huge waterfront parcels, quirky beach bungalows, and modest charming houses near the commercial district, the eclectic mix gives the community a sense of balance.
Restaurants in this upscale area include the Fromagerie, Salt Creek Grille, and Barnacle Bill’s. You’ll find more entertainment and shopping options in Red Bank, which is nearby.
Rumson also has the Rumson Country Club, which includes tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, as well as the Sea Bright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club, which was founded in 1877, four years after tennis was first introduced in the US.
You’ll also find six parks to enjoy. Nearby Sea Bright has beach and boating clubs. If you love the water as well as the close proximity to New York, Rumson, New Jersey offers an idyllic way to live!
